Lars and the Real Girl

Ass-Headed Bottom: Well, that's one improbably compliant town! It's possible to watch this movie as a DeGrassi episode tipped fatally overboard (Ryan Gosling doesn't help by overacting), but I like how often I was fooled by where this movie was going. A romantic comedy starring a sex-doll would seem too gimmicky to be taken seriously, but watch what that gimmick does to romantic comedy. This one's way smarter than it looks, and my real girl and I very much enjoyed watching it with the stuffed shark through whom we frequently communicate.
