Winter's Bone

So imagine a movie that makes Fargo seem like the Bahamas; and, in the very same movie, your heart leaps in exhaustive joy at the sight of two baby chicks––not because they're cute, but because every droplet of sentimentality and nostalgia has been drained from the universe and only purity remains and sometimes that purity comes in the form of baby chicks. Though mostly not. But it's possible. Extra special praise to the young heroine of this film who can stand proudly next to DeCaprio's utterance of the word "ever." I can't recall, really, any film that made me feel it's space and place and people so intensely. I was glad it's summer when I walked out, though.

Beauty, midnight, vision dies:
Let the winds of dawn that blow
Softly round your dreaming head
Such a day of sweetness show
Eye and knocking heart may bless.
Find the mortal world enough;
Noons of dryness see you fed
By the involuntary powers,
 Nights of insult let you pass
Watched by every human love.

To have watched you survive has been a blessing, Ree Dolling. Thank you. A

Koko: That's because you slept through Bright Star. Wanker.
