If the Kryptonians were so smart, why did they need to argue about whether their planet was about to explode? Wouldn't their science be sufficiently advanced to settle the question? Or will all species, regardless of intelligence, be doomed to speculate on the imminent collapse of that gigantic, pulsing star in the window?

If the Kryptonians were so smart, why did they need to argue about whether their planet was about to explode? Wouldn't their science be sufficiently advanced to settle the question?
