The workmanship shows: it's a crafty, careful thing, measured, practical, and inventive. But can anything so canonized and hyped ever fail to disappoint? On one hand, the overall effect is more disturbing than scary, and that difference tells us something about the movie's seriousness and design. On the other hand, it has a Scooby-Doo ending complete with amusement park ghost. Nothing so great, or alleged to be great, should have to explain itself.Besides, we always have a replacement, should Anthony Perkins tire of accolade:
"Do you like Phil Collins?"
