"I hate you too, you little brat!"Dustin Hoffman gives one hell of a performance. It's easy to forget that underneath all those Rico Rizzos and Rain Men, Graduates and goofy Captain Hooks, lurks Hoffman the method actor: subtle, adaptable, expressive. The French toast scene at the end of the movie, impending melodrama for certain, comes across as understated and barely sane with regret rather than sentimental thanks entirely to Hoffman's stoic reserve.
But don't misunderstand me: Razzo is the king. Well, Rafa is the king, but Razzo, he's pretty good too.
"Damn, you really know the ropes. I wish I'd bumped into you before." So do we, Joe Buck, so do we.
