Like Pineapple Express, it works because the characters that matter aren't made out of cardboard, and the ones who don't are (mostly) slapstick funny. I wish it ended with less sentimental hogwash, though. But the best part of the movie was saying hello to Bill Haverchuck (Martin Starr), and thanking him for his work in Freaks and Geeks. Koko: Agreed. Sans meeting Martin Starr. I thought it was just goofy enough to keep me interested but too self-serious to keep me close. Also, I kept expecting Jesse Eisenberg to turn into Michael Cera, and, as you can imagine, I was pretty disappointed when that never happened. Hearty applause, though, for Haverchuck's spontaneous monody on the ill-obituaried "Henry Melville."
