Slothrop: Wild Strawberries + The Wire + drunk Japanese men= Ikiru. It was good to watch a film play with sentimentality like a cat that's recently caught a mouse. But can a miserable life of 30 years be redeemed in the last few months? True, L.A. Confidential is still a great movie if you ignore the last five minutes; but does that splicing trick work when you need to amputate the part that's the majority of a person's life?

Slothrop: Wild Strawberries + The Wire + drunk Japanese men= Ikiru. It was good to watch a film play with sentimentality like a cat that's recently caught a mouse. But can a miserable life of 30 years be redeemed in the last few months? True, L.A.
