Ass-Headed Bottom: Nostalgia is always for suckas, right? Wrong! Once in history it has been for rock stars, namely the Kinks. These loafer-and-tweed-sportin' badasses rocked the village green back in 1968. They sang lonesome songs about Professor Moriarty, steam locomotives, fly-fishing, and childhood friends named Walter, just when all such bric-a-brac was heading headlong out of style. Of course, they were kidding, but they're so damn cool about it, so damn dry about it, that even today they make this jackass want to go kick up his hooves on the village green. However, it is a million degrees outside, centigrade, and village greens have long since given way to one enormous interconnected shopping mall. So you're not even going to get back there unless you plug in your phonograph, turn the volume all the way up (that is, crank the knob; this is before remote control), and dance around like an idiot in your loafers and tweed. It's the last of those good old-fashioned trains.

The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society
